School Meals Scheme during Covid-19 closure

[THIS MESSAGE HAS ALSO BEEN SENT BY TEXT AND EMAIL - IF YOU HAVE RESPONDED VIA THE TEXT OR EMAIL LINK, THERE IS NO NEED TO SUBMIT A SECOND RESPONSE]

Dear Parents,

We have been contacted by the Department of Social and Family Affairs about continuing the school lunch scheme while schools are closed. We are mindful that economic and employment circumstances may have changed in some households due to the Covid-19 situation, to the extent that families who previously would not have been dependent on school meals may be experiencing different circumstances now.

The school has 215 pupils who come from a wide geographic area including Westport and Castlebar. We have not yet decided how we will run the scheme. The Department has advised schools that they can make up weekly food boxes for families to the value of €10 per school child, containing bread, milk, wholegrain cereal, fruit and vegetables. These boxes could then be delivered to homes by An Post or a food supplier. We will devise the best way to operate the programme when we know the number of families involved.

We have been asked to invite families already in receipt of support under the School Meals Programme to let us know if they wish to continue to avail of this support during this period of school closure.

PLEASE REPLY BY 12 NOON TOMORROW 7th APRIL - click on the link below to complete the form

(ONLY REPLY IF YOU WISH TO TAKE UP THIS OFFER OF SUPPORT)

Once we have a list of families opting to be included in this scheme, we will devise a way of administering the scheme which will not compromise rules around physical distancing and avoiding contamination during the Covid 19 epidemic.

Wishing you all good health.

Kind regards,

Brid Chambers

Principal
