Graduation Day

On Tuesday, we bid a fond farewell to our 6th class graduates with a lovely Graduation event on the school grounds. Principal Brid Chambers welcomed the children and their parents, and thanked them all for their wholehearted engagement with the school during their 8 years attending Newport NS, and especially through the recent school closure. She made special mention of the parents who were now finished with the school as the last of their children graduated.

6th Class teacher Claire Forrestal then called each pupil up from the car park to receive their Graduation Certificate, Graduation hoodie (designed by themselves) and a commemorative booklet recording their time in Newport NS with their own memories and that of teachers and many other members of the school community. Their pack also included a book token generously provided by the Parent Association.

It was a very moving ceremony, with much honking of car horns, cheering - and the odd tear or two. It was attended by the staff of the school as well as parents and graduating pupils - all done with appropriate social distancing - and we hope it will become a long-lasting memory for the children as they move on to a new phase in their lives.

Thank you to all the parents who came along and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
