Community Games Futsal

On the 8th of April in Westport, three girls from 6th class: Katie McNea, along with Maggie and Emily Chambers competed in the Connaught finals for the Community Games Futsal.

Futsal is 5 a-side football game which is played indoors. The girls were on a panel of 8 players but were only left with 6 on the day due to injuries. The first match was played against Elphin of Roscommon and this was a very tight game. The full time score was 1-1, which brought them to extra time and then penalties. Burrishoole won on penalties, the score was 4-1.

After that match the girls progressed onto the final. In the final they played Ballymote of Sligo. While in the dressing room the girls were very nervous as this Ballymote team had not played a match so they would be coming on with fresh legs. In the end the Burrishoole girls won 1-0 by an own goal from the opposition.

There were big celebrations that evening in Newport as the U12 girls outdoor soccer team had also been successful winning the Connaught Title. The U15 girls were managed by Tommy Forrestal and Patrick Moran. The U12 girls were managed by Alan Knox and Ray Kelly.

We are now going to Dublin on the 6th of May for the All Ireland Finals.
