Graduation Day

On Tuesday, we bid a fond farewell to our 6th class graduates with a lovely Graduation event on the school grounds. Principal Brid Chambers welcomed the children and their parents, and thanked them all for their wholehearted engagement with the school during their 8 years attending Newport NS, and especially through the recent school closure. Dear Parents and Children, I hope that you are all well as we finally reach the official end of the school year. Our children have saved countless lives by the sacrifices that they have made over the past three months. The school community is rightly proud of the way Covid-19 was stamped out through the vigilance of our people. We know that the emergence of this new virus will change how we do things in the future. I am however very optimistic that we will open our school to all our classes as planned in September. We will take precautions and you too, will be asked to support Covid procedures. Book Lists

2020/21 Book Lists are now available to download from the DOWNLOADS-BOOK LISTS page All books are available to purchase from local bookshops including McLoughlin's Westport, Eason's Castlebar and Castle Books, Castlebar. A copy of all book lists will be made available to these bookshops NEXT WEEK for reference. If you applied for a Book Grant, please do not purchase any books until you have received your Book Grant. The annual fee for Book Rental/Photocopying/Art and Craft supplies and stationery (details on your book list) can be paid online anytime after 29th June (ie after end of current school year) or by cash/cheque once the school re-opens on 1st September.

End of Year report cards are now available for parents. You can view your child(ren)'s report card(s) securely on the Aladdin Connect home page.

We are delighted to announce the class teacher allocation for next year (see below) Book Lists will be published later today and Report Cards will also be sent home via Aladdin. Starting Primary School

Parents of new infants due to start school on 1st September may find the attached leaflet, issued by the National Parents Council and Early Childhood Ireland, helpful in preparing their child. Yesterday many of the children of 1st Class did a Zoom bake along together where Moya shared her chocolate biscuit cake recipe. It was a great success as you can see from the delicious results. This year Cillian and his family took part in the Incredible Edibles school / family challenge They were delighted to WIN the Family Friday feature for this in May and were in the Top 10 in the Grand Final Cilllian and Aoife are delighted with their great achievement and can’t wait for all their vegetables to grow!

5 Star Bug Hotel

A big THANK YOU to our hard-working caretaker Ged Gallagher who has been taking such good care of the school while we have been closed. As well as freshening up the paintwork, and polishing the floors, he has found time to upgrade our Bug Hotel ! We look forward to welcoming many guests to our new accommodation.
